Editorial Policy

OTG Report exists to help beginners and DIYers build practical off-grid systems that are safe, reliable, and maintainable.

What we publish

We publish three main article types:

  • Buyer guides: “Best of” lists for specific needs and budgets
  • Comparisons: A vs B decisions with clear use-case recommendations
  • How-to guides: Step-by-step instructions that recommend gear only when it helps

How we choose products

When we recommend products, we focus on:

  • Realistic use cases and constraints
  • Durability and maintainability
  • Safety and compatibility
  • Clear pros/cons, including when not to buy something

What we avoid

  • Hype, fear tactics, or pressure language
  • Invented specifications or performance claims
  • “Best” claims without explaining for whom and why
  • Recommending gear that adds complexity without benefit

Updates and corrections

We periodically update content when:

  • Products are discontinued or significantly changed
  • Newer/better options appear
  • We find errors or unclear guidance
